Am I covered as a borrower?
No, Share My Gear's guarantee is only for the lenders. You are welcome to take out your own coverage as a borrower through an insurance company.

As a borrower you are fully liable for any damage you cause to the gear. This means it is your responsibility to have the funds available to replace the gear if the worst case scenario happens and you entirely destroy, or lose the gear. You will also need to pay for any damage you cause so make sure you have the funds available just in case.

The borrower is fully responsible for the gear while in their possession. So if it gets stolen, broken, lost or confiscated during this time, they will have to bear the cost of rectifying the problem.
What is the claims process?
If you need to make a claim please follow the steps below:

1. Report the issue to Share My Gear within 24 hours of the end date of the rental.

2. Contact the borrower and see if you can resolve the issue amongst yourselves. Borrowers are liable for any damage they cause so it's often cheaper and quicker for them to just pay for the repair or replacement with you directly.

3. If a resolution cannot be reached between you, or if you would prefer not to communicate with the borrower, just let us know and we can step in. We will ask you to provide photos or a video of the item before it went on rent in working order, and once you've received it back showing the damage.

4. If the borrower denies causing any damage and it is unclear if the damage was their fault or not, then we may ask you to get the damage confirmed or diagnosed by a reputable third party repairer. Either way, as soon as we have established the damage was the borrowers fault as opposed to prior damage then we will pay for it straight away.

5. If the item is irreparable we will get a replacement to you ASAP.

It is very important to us that you feel comfortable and safe lending out your gear on Share My Gear so we do everything we can to protect you against any issues, and make this process as efficient and stress free as possible.

What contact information should I give the user?
How much information you provide the borrowers is completely up to you. You will always have an option to contact them through our website but if you find that this is not convenient for your lifestyle you can always suggest a different communication platform. Only provide information you feel comfortable sharing with people you do not know.
Can I list more than one gear?
Yes. You can list gear to your heart's content. Once you have created a profile, you can choose to 'List a gear' on the top profile page, as many times as you have gear to offer.
How do I take good quality photos?

There are a few tips to follow to take good quality pictures:

  1. First impressions count! - always include photos of your gear. This ensures browsers and regular renters will fall in love with your gear quicker because you are speeding up their decision making process. We all love to save time!
  2. Resolution - most smart phones take good quality photos. You can also use a digital camera. Look out for over pix elation and blurriness. No one likes to come off over-exposed or faded, and your gear certainly wont like it either.
  3. The right light - Avoid direct sunlight or nighttime when taking your photos. Anything from a bright to overcast day should give you good natural lighting.
  4. Interesting background - Do you have a favourite spot or do you know the location of an interesting brick wall or unusually patterned fence? Go there. It’ll give your photo more character.
  5. Go pro! - Frame your gear well, leaving space to the right and left of the gear. Also, the composition of your photo should aim to show 1/4 ground and 3/4 wall.
What conditions do I have to fulfill in order to rent my gear?
All you need is an available gear in perfect working condition and a passion for a sharing community.
My gear is not is working condition. Can I still list it?
We are an inclusive community. We would love it if everyone who owns a gear would share it with others. However, we also have a duty of care and want all of our members to be and stay safe. If your gear needs a little TLC or you are unsure about its condition, why not take it to a local shop for inspection?
How do I arrange the handover?
It is totally up to you. This can be decided between the lender and the borrower. You can either arrange a pick-up and drop-off at a mutually convenient location, the lenders home, or in some cases the lender is willing to deliver to the borrowers home.
